W. Proctor Harvey Center for Excellence
The beloved, late W. Proctor Harvey, M.D. (H'79), was a part of Georgetown's medical school for more than a third of the school's history. He was a member of the Georgetown University School of Medicine community for 55 years in numerous capacities: teacher, mentor, and friend. To show our appreciation for the man who blessed the medical school in so many ways, we are excited to share our plans to create the W. Proctor Harvey Center for Excellence, Georgetown's first teaching amphitheater.
Wired with state-of-the-art multimedia, the center will allow each student to link into the sound and media system to become an interactive participant in the art and science of medicine. This technology will enhance the classroom experience by connecting professors and students through expanded avenues of communication.
This transformation of the amphitheater and classrooms will create technology-enabled teaching and learning facilities focusing on the new curriculum direction.
"I spent two years with Dr. Harvey, 1961 and 1962. He was a marvelous instructor – patient and kind. If you didn't understand a point he made, he would stay with it until he was sure you got it. Over my 13 years at Georgetown, those two years were the best."
